"the boys you couldn't get over"

5’9 on a good day, 3'3 when you'd erupt

will you ever shape up?

insecure and obsessed with my past of “horror”

you're green with misogyny, my newest torture

~

so i had to run fast, emotionally fried

while you pitched a fit and lost your mind

scoured the laptop i left behind

etched timestamps then fled once i arrived

it's evident the little boy you hide inside is still alive

but luckily, you ran me over just in time.

i'm free to thrive, enjoy my prime

unassigned to your dime and retroactive brine

i’m embarking on my destiny solo

no worthwhile man left behind

so welcome to the party of boys you couldn't get over

you'll fit in just fine.

more similar than different, You've been formally invited to join my past!

consisting of men who were overcast

boys who mishandled me and my craft

those who never shaped up, my lackluster draft

you'll find better company with them than with me, my personal debris.

spin your stories with the best, dot your I's and cross your T's

so you can walk around with that grand decree

that we fell apart because of me

...the girl writing poetry?

so raise your glass with the rest

cheers to f***ing me over, but never into duress

because i channel these injustices in ways you’d never guess

artforms you could never express

undressing our story in words of effervesce

to ultimately say you're a blind, insecure, repressed mess

that’s why this happened for the best.

so welcome to the party of boys you couldn't get over

enjoy your time in the echoes of my past, my newest “wounded soldier”.
